Jonnalagadda Venkata Somayajulu was a Telugu theatre and film actor who was also an I.A.S Officer.Acting was his passion and he and his actor brother J.V.Ramana Moorthy staged more than 500 times Gurazada Apparao's play 'Kanya Sulkam' in a period of 45 years.Because he loved that drama very much he later made a 13 episode T.V.Serial based on that story.
Somayajulu hailed from a village near Urlam in Srikakulam District of Andhra Pradesh..Sankarabharanam was his most appreciated film.It was directed by Dr.K.Viswanath and the music was composed by K.V.Mahadevan.S.P.Balasubramanyam also earned much credit for his wonderful rendering of the beautiful songs in that film.The film was fabulous by all means.The director made an excellent job by impalpable caring of each and every aspects of the film like choreography,editing,sound recording etc.The film created an amazing impact on the audience that it was running in packed cinema houses for several months.All the expressions and even minute gestures shown by Somayajulu was excellent and highly impressive.The extremely fine classical dances performed by Manju Bhargavi in the film and inimitable superb performance of Somayajulu produced mesmeric effect to attract audience to cinema houses again and again.

The success of Sankarabharanam caused the making of several other films in that genre and 'Sapthapadi' was also suchlike film which was directed by K.Viswanath and also a National award winner film of 1981.Thyagayya was another film based on Carnatic music.'Sitara' was 1983 film directed by 'Vamsy' which was the debut film of actress 'Bhanupriya'.This movie won National award for best feature film in Telugu of that year.'Vijetha' was the remake of 'Saheb' Hindi film and Chiranjeevi and Bhanupriya acted along with Somayajulu in that film.The life of Bhagwan Shirdi Sai Baba was the theme of 'Sri Shirdi Sai Baba Mahatyam' in which he handled the role of 'Nanachandrokari'.In the Hindi film 'Pratibandh' he handled the role of Chief Minister Satyendra Sharma.In the Tamil film 'Sri Raghavendra' he handled the Guru Character of 'Raghavendra'.The title role was handled by 'Rajani Kant'.In 1993 he handled the role of 'Raja Raja Verma Thampuran' in the Malayalam film 'Sopanam'.He died on 27 April 2004 at Hyderabad at the age of 76.
